Birthday Party!

Even though Moses couldn't have cared less, I threw him a tiny (smaller than tiny, actually, only 4 invitations went out and 3 of those were to family members) birthday party last weekend. Planning birthday parties is the only chance I seem to have at creativity these days. This year's party centered around planes since Moses loves anything relating to transportation. This wedding cake was my inspiration for the invitations and cupcakes.

I used a cupcake tower to display the devil's food cupcakes I made. Each was iced and topped with white cotton candy "clouds." I then used some wire to attach painted wooden biplanes to the cupcake tower structure. I added two red ribbon banners behind each plane, one that read "Happy" and another that read "Birthday."

Moses had a great time playing with his friend, Vivian, and visiting with Dave's parents. Moses wasn't into his cupcake (probably because Dave had already given him two cupcakes that day) but he successfully blew out one of his candles! He received even more Thomas the Train gear to add to what he'd already received (he's hit the train phase in a big way). He also got a dinosaur interactive book that he enjoys so long as we skip over the Tyrannosaurus Rex page.

Since Moses missed his napped that afternoon he was a bit a zombie for most of the party and ended up crashing shortly after everyone was gone.

27

Friday was my 27th birthday. To celebrate, Dave took off a half-day from work to watch the boys so that I could have an afternoon to myself. It was a very special treat and I enjoyed my alone time immensely despite thinking about my boys constantly.

Tonight we had some friends with similarly aged children over for a birthday cookout and pumpkin carving. Thanks to the voracious mosquitoes we never made it to pumpkin carving, but it was nice to have the company of adults! Moses really enjoyed playing with their daughter, Vivian, and at one point, the pair was racing around the house in a giggly game of chase--I'm not sure the rules but fun was being had.

It was a great birthday weekend. Thanks to all that have sent birthday wishes in one form or another!

His first birthday party!

We celebrated Moses' first birthday party with a handful of friends and family on December 1st. It was important for us to keep the gathering small since a) our house is tiny and it gets awkward with more than 8 people b) Moses is leery of large groups of people, even if he's familiar with them.

I chose to do an origami theme for his first party since Moses could have cared less about the theme, and I'm sure the next few years will be full of super heroes and Disney characters that I have no say in. This party was more for us anyhow--a "hooray, we survived a year of little sleep and stinky diapers" celebration. In keeping with the origami theme, I served Asian cuisine: egg rolls, rice, and sushi. Originally, I planned to make an origami cake, but Duncan Hines was not on my side that day, and we opted for a simple store-bought, vanilla-on-vanilla cake. Someday, I'll make it up to you, kid!

Overall, I think Moses had a good time. He wasn't familiar with the concept of unwrapping gifts, and if I had my wits about me, we would have practiced beforehand. He enjoyed parallel playing with Kylar, who was born a week after Moses. He had some cake, but wasn't keen to touch the icing since it stuck to his fingers. In fact, he had quite the little melt down when the icing wouldn't shake off his hands.

Our friends and family were very generous to our little man and he finished the day with an amazing pile of toys, which, oddly enough, were nearly all farm-related. He's enjoyed his tractors, barns, puzzles, pull-toys, and blocks immensely. Everyday he's learning more and more how to properly use the toys--it's so cute to watch his little brain at work.

Thanks to everyone who made his birthday special!

One-Year Check Up

Oops, I just saw that this was never published!

-----------------------------------------------

All was well at Moses' check up on November 29th. He does, however, have a cold and that's been causing all the mucus (Uh, for a month?) issues. Dr. Gray was very accepting of our decision to postpone his vaccinations. He also said, again, that Moses' teeth should come up any day now because you can see the vertical lines on the gums. Sure. I'll believe it when I see it (them)!

Stats:

31 inches (90th percentile)
21 pounds (25th percentile)
48 cm. noggin (90th percentile--he definitely belongs in this family)

So, my little boy grew 11 inches and 12.5 pounds in 1 years and 2 days. I can't believe it!

His first birthday!

On November 28th, Moses turned one! I can't believe he's one already: it's gone by so fast! I was emotional all day just thinking about that wonderful Tuesday that he was born. We went about our day the same as usual. He went to PDO because I had two classes and schoolwork , which was tough because I really wanted to hang out with him! Here are some pictures from that morning. He was more interested in playing and running around the yard than snuggling with his mom for some pictures. He's such a toddler now.

He also received a balloon bouquet from his Gram-Gram (my mom, Kelly and sisters) because he adored the balloons at his Aunt Raychel's party.

And no, he still doesn't have any teeth.
